The Team

Breda Spillane

Project Lead

Originally from Tipperary in Ireland (yes, it's a long way...!) Breda has lived and worked in the borough for almost ten years, and co-founded Making Room with MRS Independent Living in 2011 while working as a support officer in Hackney, in response to the gap in provision for the clients she was supporting at the time.

Over the years, Making Room has gone from strength to strength, and it is Breda's goal to make the organisation to be the best that it can be, taking inspiration and lead from the clients that Making Room works with.

"Our clients are the real heroes of this project - their courage, strength and commitment to work with us and reclaim their homes while sharing with us their stories is incredible - I take my lead from them - they never give up, so neither will we!"

Outside of working hours, Breda can be found pretending to run around Victoria Park, or enjoying salt beef bagels on Brick Lane - a true delicacy that sadly has not made it across the water back to Ireland!

Rowan Lambourne

Senior Hoarding Recovery Assistant

Born and raised in Hackney, Rowan continues to live in East London and enjoys being able to support the community that raised her.

Rowan has been decluttering with Making Room for 3 years, as senior HRA dealing with new referrals and queries, Rowan will probably be your first point of contact.

Rowans degree is in Film Making, but she was dissatisfied with the impersonal and status driven approach.

Rowan relishes the opportunity to work with in a personal and supportive team that in turn aims to empower its service users. Remind them of their value and if appropriate tie them into fulfilling activities and services that will enrich their lives.

Manu Valcarce

Senior Hoarding Recovery Assistant

Manu is a documentary photographer and filmmaker who collaborates with multiple local charities as part of his work. He joined Making Room as a volunteer over 2 years ago and enjoys working in close contact with clients, which is at the heart of Making Room's approach.

Joey Davison

Hoarding Recovery Assistant

Joey is a recent graduate of the London School of Economics and is based in Peckham, South-East London. He joined Making Room in October 2016 and works directly supporting clients through decluttering programmes.
Outside of Making Room, Joey enjoys cycling, books, films, music and cooking. He also works part-time as a support worker to LGBTQI+ asylum seekers, and hopes to continue to work in care in the future.
